Using an art historical application of Gustave Moreau's practice attributed to his Salome paintings as well as from the Pietà iconography, Batterman takes inspiration from the Norse myth of the death of Baldur the Beautiful. As Baldur's funeral pyre burned, Odin leaned down and whispered in his ear how beauty will exist once again when the heavens and earth are scorched in fire.
